Chaired by Marcus Wallenberg, Saab’s Board of directors consists of nine members elected at the Annual General Meeting and three members with deputies appointed by employee unions. In 1937, it was clear that Europe was on the brink of a major conflict. In Sweden, neutral and at peace for more than a century, government and industry decided to prepare for the worst. Saab was founded with the mission to secure the nation’s supply of military aircraft as part of its drive to maintain national security and sovereignty. A year later Saab completed its new factory in Trollhättan. During this decade, several aircraft development projects were running. The Lansen flew in 1952 for the first time and marked Saab’s entry into the electronic age. The first Viggen fighter aircraft was delivered in 1971, and the first order of RBS 15 surface to surface missile was received. Development of the first Arthur (weapon locating system) and the Gripen started during this decade. Saab participates in development of the Neuron unmanned aerial vehicle program. A digital book on how Saab developed into one of the world's leading manufacturers of military aircraft. Since 2010, Saab’s business strategy has focused on four prioritised areas. Our aim is to create long-term value by accomplishing these strategic priorities.
